1) Not everything should be pinned.
Do Pin:favorite recipes, fashion tips, DIY projects, photographs 
Don't Pin: car rides to grandmas, you doing a workout

2) Using Poor Captions 
Make sure you are often updating your captions when you repin a picture. Often people have the original captions on the pictures which can be confusing depend on the picture being pinned. To make sure the pictures stay current keep the captions new and fresh.

3) Not Using Descriptive Text 
Take the time, when you are editing your photos, to make sure at least one photo has attractive and descriptive text on the photo. Keep consistent designs and don't use crazy fonts. Use fonts that are easy to read and pleasing to the eye. 

4) Not having a Business Account!
If you get a business account on Pinterest, you will have access to analytics which will help you refine your goals and guide your use which can help you expand your reach. 

5) Not Using Rich Pins 
When you use Rich Pins you can see the ingredients in their recipes at a glance. 

6) Not Being Social  
Don't just share your own content. Go beyond just that and interact with others especially those who pin your content. 


7) Mass Pinning
Rather than pinning many times at once, space it out and pin at various times during the day. This will make sure your viewers don't get too overwhelmed and then unfollow you. 

8) Not Making Your Photos Easy to Pin
Make sure your photos are easy to be shared! A the minimum, you should have a Pin button for each post you create! If you want to be extra successful, have a Pin button on every image that you would like to have shared. 

9) Horrible Pictures
Don't post pictures that aren't "pinnable". Pictures that are pinnable are pictures that others would enjoy and want to see as well. If others can enjoy your photo they will repin it and "like" it rather than just letting it sit there. Make sure the pictures are clear and easy to see as well. 


10) Not Joining Group Boards
If you join and pin to a group board you can get access to thousands of other people! Be sure to check stats for the boards you want to join, so you can make sure that the members are engaged!

We recently heard a great story from our partners at Intuit, check it out! 

"Leslie Capachietti of Automated Financial Solutions recently completed an install with an e-cigarette company. Here, she talks about her learnings:

EZ Cig Vapors in Wakefield, MA was using electronic cash registers, not tracking inventory and COGS, in addition to having difficulty tracking and remitting sales tax.   They were looking for a solution that would allow them to capture customer information and offer a rewards program.  Their longer term goals are to start selling online, add at least one more location and, eventually, sell the business as a "turnkey" operation.

We worked with the Revel Systems onboarding team to put the system/hardware together and in place.  Next, we got the merchant services and QBO up and running. This all went pretty smoothly.

The complexity of this type of inventory made for some challenges during implementation. Many of the items (e-cig's) that they assemble and resell do not come with UPCs.  They also sell the liquid vapors separately which are not shipped with barcodes on them, and one flavor alone can have as many as 8 different strengths.  QuickBooks Revel does a nice job of creating labels when you export to Excel and reimport the list with UPCs (however, the bottles are so small and sell so quickly that it is not feasible to print/attach a label).  In this case, they use the search function which works pretty well.  They are now tracking about 1500 items in Revel.

EZ Cig Vapors now has a standardized process in place for setting up and working with the different e-cig types, including strengths and flavors.  Once an item is setup, they love how easy it is to receive into inventory. We're excited with the configuration that we designed   (see photos of iPad menu) because we think it can be used/shared as template for similar types of businesses.

In addition to the benefit of now having a true inventory and customer tracking system in place, the client is now on their way to building a valuable "turnkey" business that can be easily scaled (they are looking to open another location in the next 12 - 18 months) and eventually sold."
